Your Home Self-treatment Practice

I always find it so important to revisit my self-treatment practice. And first thing is first…how often am I self-treating? You can also ask yourself this same question…how often am I self-treating?

I personally self-treat in the morning, 5-7 times a week, for 30-60 minutes. And this works wonders for me! At times I will even treat again for a shorter amount of time before I go to sleep. Do what works best for you.

I also find that doing a little assessing before I go into my self-treatment session is very beneficial to understand where my body is at at that very moment in time. This usually means doing some range of motion with my hips, legs, upper body, arms, neck, etc. And once I get into a position with my small ball, or a different tool or even a stretch I work on shutting off my thoughts and feeling into my body. This allows me to gain awareness into my body and where I may need to treat next. What is your process to self-treat?

For at home and in your hands on sessions awareness is key.

You can use the following to help gain deeper awareness in your body during your self-treatment sessions and during your hands-on sessions.

Sink your awareness into the sensation, discomfort or pain through feeling, not thought. Allow the area to feel like sinking sand. Do this by feeling the inside of your body. In that same area, scan your whole body to feel the connections to other areas. Ask yourself “where does this connect internally?” Allow those areas to soften like butter melting or taffy pulling. Imagine more space in this area. Take note of your experience and if in a session provide feedback about what you are feeling in your body.
