Family Dynamics & How You Feel
Thanksgiving has just passed and I hope you had an enjoyable day with your loved ones! Last year I had Thanksgiving right here in Wichita and did the same this year.
But…for 2021 Christmas my plan is to go home. If you didn’t know I am originally from California and that’s where most of my family is. I actually haven’t seen any of my family in over two years. Unfortunately, we won’t be getting together with all my extended family, but at least I’ll get to see my parents and sisters.
We all have dynamics in our families and we all react to them differently. When I didn’t see my family for seven years I remember setting eyes on my parents in the airport waiting for me. I was a bit shaky and nervous. Getting to their home took over an hour in the car and we made a few stops in-between. The ride to their home actually went smoothly, it was nice that typical car dynamics didn’t happen during this ride! Now it’s been two years and holiday time. So shaky and nervous will probably be there again and most likely a stirred up feeling with all the holiday happenings. And I’m curious to see what dynamics will occur while I’m staying in their house! As for the ride to the house, the plan is to take a train that’ll drop us 5 minutes from their home!!!
I think about how this all affects my body/my fascial system, because everything will from the time I leave my house in Wichita to the time I return to my house in Wichita. I am sure there will be many of the same dynamics between my parents as-well-as the ones between myself and them. And hey maybe we will even break some of the not so good ones and indulge in the wonderful ones!
To me it’s so important during lots of family time and all the things you’re “supposed to do” for the holidays to pay attention to how I truly feel. My goal is to keep myself as loose and open as possible, so I can stay relaxed not only in my body also in my mind, spirit and my emotions. I look forward to keeping myself relaxed and receptive to everything especially because a few things have changed with my family. My niece who I saw at 6 months last time is now two and a half! My “little” sister is 7 months pregnant! My dad has a 10 month old cat! And I’m sure while I’m there I’ll discover other things that have changed.
What are you excited for during these holiday times? How are you feeling in your body?
