It Is What It Is!!!
I was asked to share some thoughts by a local yoga therapist, Sarah Cummins with Waterfall Yoga, and now I'm sharing them with you.
In community many of us feel connection, support and protection. Although, at this present moment a sense of separation may arise in ourselves due to the covid-19 crisis. All of our feelings, of course, affect us emotionally and we must remember they can physically shift our structure. Feelings tend to embed in our fascia and literally shape us. This very intelligent connective tissue is just like the feelings mentioned above about covid.
Fascia connects, supports, protects and separates everything in our body. It influences and can be influenced by bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. And, let’s not forget it acts as our shock absorber and a defense mechanism. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Smooth sailing like a “highway of moving fluid” which “ebbs and flows like the ocean” (NY University School of Medicine). Reality check--many of us do not have free flowing, sliding and gliding fascia. Most of us have trouble maintaining homeostasis because of fascial restrictions.
Stuck fascia is truly important to unravel and allow for freedom of movement as-well-as letting emotions release. Connective tissue that is mimicking glue and doesn’t allow for movement not only affects your daily activities it also has the ability to restrict your yoga practice.
Freeing your facia through purposeful movements, breath, spiritual connection and concentration of yogic principles allows for a relaxing and peaceful daily life. This is what lead me on my yoga and fascia freeing journey.
