Inner Wisdom
For nearly a decade I have been exploring this idea of body wisdom. What does it mean to have inner wisdom and really what is inner wisdom? These answers are definitely subjective. I’ll share some of my thoughts and I’m interested in yours too. At the end of this I offer a couple prompts to feel into your inner knowing.
___
Body wisdom. Inner knowing. Embodiment. I live in this physical body yet when I allow myself to tune into the present moment outside of my body and internally within, especially internally, a whole new world of sensing into feeling, emotion, perception and awareness is available to me. What about you? I often close my eyes, pause for a moment, maybe do a body scan, take at least five deep breaths or maybe just notice what my breath is doing. Then I wait. I wait for what rises. I wait for what presents itself to me. A sensation. An image. A feeling. A memory. A sense of knowing. A thought. Then I wait. I wait again for what my body wants to share with me about what has come to the surface.
Recently I have been working with quieting down the loud areas, these pesky voices, and feeling more into the quiet. Feeling more into the silence. Feeling more into the subtleties. Because I know and have known for many years the subtleties that are buried deep in the body that’s the body wisdom I want to acknowledge, learn more about and learn from. This deep sense of body wisdom this is the place where “things” begin to unlock, and shifts can take place. (Take note there are many levels of internal shifting. Shifts don’t all have to be deep.)
So really what is body wisdom? In my opinion it’s the body allowing sensations, memories, feelings, emotions and thoughts, without thinking, to come to surface so an awareness can take place and a shift can happen. And it’s so much more than that I just don’t have words for it, at least not in this moment.
___
Prompts
Find a place outside that offers a little silence. Sit or stand. Close your eyes. Take ten deep breaths. Listen. Listen to what your ears hear. Now turn this listening inward. Feel into your body and listen. Where is your attention drawn to. Is there a message in this place your body wants you to know? Don’t rush. Maybe offer yourself five to ten minutes or longer for this experience.
Set aside at least ten minutes to sit and journal about “a time your body knew.” This prompt is open-ended, the answer is whatever comes up for you.
